Connect your assistant

Connect Claude Code or Codex to create and edit IceFold work in your usual conversation. Results appear on the same canvas you can open, review and edit yourself. Prefer to start inside IceFold? Use the built-in creation assistant in the Quickstart.

1. Connect your client

You need an IceFold account and the client installed. These instructions cover Codex CLI and Claude Code, not the Claude web or desktop app. No extra IceFold Skill, SDK or runner installation is needed.

The remote MCP server uses Streamable HTTP:

Codex CLI

Run these commands in your terminal:

codex mcp add icefold --url https://api.icefold.com/v1/mcp
codex mcp login icefold --scopes session:read,session:edit,session:run,session:create,session:delete

Complete the IceFold sign-in and authorization in the browser, then return to Codex.

Claude Code

Run this in the terminal in the project where you use Claude Code:

claude mcp add --transport http icefold https://api.icefold.com/v1/mcp

Open Claude Code in that project, enter /mcp, select IceFold and authenticate in the browser. To make the connection available across projects, add --scope user to the command.

2. Review access and costs

The authorization page shows which canvases the assistant can access and what it can do. New connections default to all current and future canvases for 30 days. Use Adjust access, usage and duration to choose selected canvases or a shorter duration. Permanent deletion is a separate opt-in and is not needed to create content.

Generation in IceFold uses IceFold credits, separately from your assistant subscription. Connection permission does not mean unlimited spending. Review the proposed production and any spending approval requested before generation; existing authorization applies within its scope.

3. Try a first request

Create a product-introduction workflow in IceFold. Prepare editable steps for my brief and an ad script, but do not generate anything yet. Give me the canvas link.

Open the returned link and check that the steps are there. A prepared workflow is not generated media. Add your material, review the plan and ask the assistant to proceed when ready. It can return result links and the canvas for further edits.

The built-in assistant, external clients and your own edits use the same workflow rules. Your review settings and pinned outputs still apply. Switching browser canvases does not change an external assistant’s target: name the work or share its canvas link when changing tasks.

Manage the connection or resolve a problem

  • Only reading works: reconnect and allow editing, generation and canvas creation for the intended canvases.
  • Expired or disconnected: authenticate again using the client steps above.
  • Missing material: ask the client to upload the original file. If it cannot transfer files, upload in IceFold and share the canvas link.
  • Stop access: open Settings → Account → My agent to revoke a connection. My agent in the blank-canvas context menu also manages connections for that canvas.
